Lance Strate teaches about communication, information, symbols, media, technology, consciousness, and culture at Fordham University, where he holds the rank of Professor.  He also serves as Executive Director of the Institute of General Semantic, and on the Board of Directors of the Media Ecology Association, a society he was instrumental in founding.  He was President of the MEA for over a decade, and also is a past President of the New York State Communication Association.  The author of Echoes and Reflections:  On Media Ecology as a Field of Study, and co-editor of serveral anthologies, including The Legacy of McLuhan, and Communication and Cyberspace, he is the supervisory editor of the media ecology book series published by Hampton Press, and a partner in NeoPoiesis Press.  He blogs on blogspot, and also has a poetry blog on MySpace.  The parent of an autistic child and an advocate for the autism community, he serves on the Board of Trustees of Congregation Adas Emuno of Leonia, NJ, and serves as occasional lay leader in the tradition of Reform Judaism.
